Greenlandic #metoo Court Case Closed, 40 Days’ Sentence

The Appeals Court in Greenland has found former party secretary of the Siumut party Mikael Petersen guilty of sexual harassment of several women in the party, following a three-day court case, KNR reports.

Petersen was convicted in the district court last January, but pledged his innocence and immediately appealed the decision.

Now, the Appeals Court has convicted him once more. He was found guilty of two charges, while being declared fully and partially free of two other charges. He was sentenced to 40 days in prison.

The case against Petersen contributed to initiating a large debate about sexual harassment in Greenland. Former Greenland premier Kim Kielsen of the Siumut party has been criticized for supporting Petersen with his testimony in court.
