Greenland Takes Over Issue Area for the First Time in a Decade

Greenland’s Premier Mute B. Egede (IA) has informed Danish PM Mette Frederiksen that the Naalakkersuisut (self-rule government) has decided that the responsibility for enterprise, accounting and auditing shall be transferred from Denmark to Greenland, according to KNR.

This is the first time in over a decade that Greenland takes over the responsibility for an issue area from Denmark. In 2010, Greenland took over the responsibility for raw materials and of offshore work environment.

Greenland’s Trade Minister Pele Broberg will chair negotiations with Denmark. He writes in a press release that the move will make it easier to adapt legislation to Greenlandic conditions while also allowing for better local overview over enterprise in general.
