Greenland Starts Planning Major Road Development

Greenland’s budget for 2020 allocates DKK 5 million to starting a planning project regarding the establishing a new road between Sisimiut and Kangerlussuaq, according to KNR.

The planned road will be very important for the development of the local communities as well as business in the area. Sisimiut is located on the western coast of Greenland and has the northernmost year-round ice-free port of all the country. Kangerlussuaq is located some 130 kilometers further east, measured on the map, and currently has the only airport in Greenland dimensioned for receiving large planes such as e.g. Boeing 757.

The road is estimated to cost DKK 400-500 million.

The five millions allocated in the budget allows the road development process to start by working out an initial project plan.
