Greenland Military Base Cleanup Delayed

The Danish Environmental Minister states that the cleanup of old abandoned American military bases in Greenland will be delayed, according to Sermitsiaq, due to a short work season, challenging weather conditions and Corona.

It was back in 2017 that Greenland’s self-rule authority Naalakkersuisut entered into a DKK 180 million-agreement with Denmark in which Denmark allocated these funds to clean up after abandoned US military bases in the 2018-2023 period.

As per today, only 24 out of the annual 30 million have been used. A total of 18 places in need of cleanup have been identified.
