Greenland Ends No-Quota Zones

Greenland’s self-rule authority, the Naalakkersuisut, on 10 December changed a 2014 regulation related to coast-based flounder fisheries. The new regulation abolishes quota free zones in these fisheries, according to Sermitsiaq.

The decision came following a long process in which in particular the quota free areas in Upernavik, Uummannaq and the Disko Bay have caused disagreement.

The new regulation creates new management areas with quota-based fisheries, and thus quota-free areas will be discontinued. This comes in particular from a regard to sustainability.
