Greenland Crab Quota Twice the Recommended Size
Greenland’s Ministry of Fisheries and Foraging has recently raised the quota for crab fishing in the Sisimuit area by 130 tons, bringing the total quantum permitted to 630, according to Sermitsiaq.
Scientific advice suggest that a sustainable quota should be limited to 300 tons in total.
This is the third time in a month that the Naalakkersuisut raises quotas far beyond what scientists consider sustainable. The same has recently been done for halibut and humpback whales.
