Finland adapts easily to NATO, according to report

According to a recent report from the Finnish Institute for Foreign Policy (Upi), there will be no problem for Finland to adapt to NATO's line.

Finland has maintained a strong defense capability and has focused on Russia as a security threat for a long time. According to the researchers, the country's strategic location and size, as well as military forces, including Arctic expertise, can give Finland a good starting point to make its voice heard as a "medium-sized" member of the alliance.

The Finnish newspaper Yle.fi has reported on the case.

The report has been prepared by researchers Matti Pesu and Tuomas Iso-Markku, who believe that the most important parts of NATO's reform processes for Finland are command and force structures and operational planning.

According to researchers, the formation of Finland's future role in NATO is strongly influenced by four geographical facts: Strong dependence on transport routes in the Baltic Sea, location on the Russian front line, an important role in the defense of the Arctic region between the Kola Peninsula and the Norwegian coast, and a location far from possible reinforcements. According to the report, it is, among other things, absolutely necessary for Finland that NATO has plans for the country to be strengthened - what the supplementary forces should be and where they should come from.
