Fight over Port Dues in Greenland

Greenland’s Naalakkersuisoq (Minister) for Housing and INfrastructure Mariane Paviassen says in a statement that user payment in ports, like already introduced in Nuuk, is to be gradually introduced also in other ports in Greenland. That has caused rage in its government coalition partner party Naleraq, according to Sermitsiaq.

Naleraq’s Jens Napaattooq says there has been an informal agreemenet between the coalition partners of the self-rule government, IA and Naleraq, that dinghy fishers and smaller vessels shall not be subject to fees when using ports.

In Nuuk, user payment covers the port’s expences, and the goal of introducing this principle in ports around the country shall be to catch up with long overdue maintenance costs in the country’s many ports.

Nappattooq does not want to say where the money for maintenance should come from if not from port dues.
