Denmark Puts Deep-Sea Mining On Hold

The Danish Commonwealth has agreed to pause any action regarding deep-sea mining on the international seabed. That is announced by the Danish MFA in a press release.

The decision prohibits deep-sea mining until the UN's International Seabed Authority adopts regulations to ensure environmental protection.

These regulations are expected to be ready at the beginning of 2025.

In January, Norway opened up for deep-sea mining in the Arctic. Thus, the country was among the first countries in the world to open up to commercial seabed mineral mining. The decision faced a lot of resistance from environmentalists.
