Denmark Increases Surveillance in the Arctic

Denmark will allocate an extra DKK 1.5 billion on defense in the Arctic, according to Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Sermitsiaq writes. The money will primarily be spent on strengthening surveillance capacity.

Frederiksen says that there has been increased submarine activity from the Russians over time, and that it is thus obvious that surveillance capacities need to be strengthened.

Increased big power rivalry in the Arctic has further contributed to the decision about allocating extra funds for this purpose.
