Denmark Agrees to NATO Proposal to Increase Defense Spending
The Danish government supports a new NATO target of spending 3.5 percent of GDP on defense, as well as 1.5 percent on other security challenges.
That was reported by TV2 today.
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen made this statement upon her arrival at a summit in Vilnius today. There, Nordic heads of state and government will meet with Baltic and Eastern European allies ahead of the NATO summit in The Hague later this month.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has said that he expects the alliance's member states to agree on a new target of spending a total of 5 percent of GDP on defense. This aligns with demands from US President Donald Trump.
