Demontrations in Greenland

Some 1,000 yesterday gathered for a demonstration in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, according to Sermitsiaq. Their message was for politicians to be more sensitive to the people’s wishes.

The protest group "Naammaleqaaq! – Enough is enough!" was created last week following the news that the Naalakkersuisut wants to increase taxes on a series of goods in order to balance its 2020 budget.

As of yesterday afternoon, some 1,300 signatures were collected in support of the protests. These were handed over to head of Naalakkersuisut, Kim Kielsen (S). When he subsequently gave a brief speech, the protesters turned their backs on him to protest.
