Danish Objections to Greenland-USA Deal

Dansk Folkeparti (DF) in Denmark is critical of the Pituffik Agreement signed by Greenland and the USa, according to Sermitsiaq, as Greenland’s premier Kim Kielsen signed the agreement without Denmark’s being a party to it. That may be a violation of the Danish constitution, according to DF.

This is the first time ever that Greenland signs an agreement with a foreign country without Denmark being party to the agreement.

That is why the Pituffik Service Agreement is historic and significant, argues Greenland’s Naalakkersuisoq (minister) of Foreign Affairs Steen Lynge. He argues that the agreement gives Greenland future precedence for entering into independent agreements with foreign countries on areas within the self-rule authority’s areas of responsibility.
