Creates Children’s Council in Tasiilaq

Children and youth aged 13-18 will now get the opportunity to apply for membership in a soon-to-be-created Children’s Council in Tasiilaq, Greenland.

At the end of August, representatives of NAAKUSA travel to Tasiilaq to establish the Council. NAAKUSA is a cooperation project between UNICEF Denmark and the Greenlandic self-rule authorities. The Children’s Council is to ensure the voice of children being heard, according to Sermitsiaq.

NAKUUSA will also educate teachers as well as others working with children and youth about children’s rights. The goal is to establish a Rights Council in all schools in towns and villages in  East Greenland.

The conditions for children in Tasiilaq received widespread public attention following a Danish TV documentary earlier this year.
