Certified Svalbard Guides to Provide Safer Tourism

In its process to revise the Svalbard tourism regulations, the Norwegian government requests input to the announced certification requirement of tourist guides. The goals is to create better experiences for tourists while at the same time lowering the impact on Svalbard’s vulnerable nature.

The government requests input as to what competence requirements should be included in such a certification of the guides, where their education should be conducted, and what requirements there should be for renewal of the said certification. Both business, academia and governance bodies are to contribute with input in the process of revising the Svalbard tourism regulations.

A proposed new regulation will be out on hearing during the autumn of 2021.
