Castberg Export Concept Decision Expected Soon
The choice of concept for oil export from the Johan Castberg field in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea is expected by the end of the year, according to petro.no. The decision was originally expected by the end of October.
The alternatives are, according to Equinor, either ship-to-ship transfer at sea or by a downscaled terminal facility, or a terminal at Veidnes, Finnmark with oil stored in land-based tanks.
There is significan political pressure for chosing to use a terminal. A reloading solution may be available at the time of production start for the Castberg field towards the end of 2022.
