Canadian Railway Tracks Blocked in Support of First Nations
In Canada, there are massive protests against a planned natural gas pipeline that is to cut through First Nations’ land in British Columbia, according to KNR. There have been rail track blocks and also motorway roadblocks many places in the country recently.
The many recent rail track blocks have led CN Rail, Canadas largest railway company, to halt its activities in eastern Canada. The Canadian Security Minister refers to the railway and road blocks as unacceptable.
The fight between First Nations and the authorities about the pipeline has been going on for more than a decade, and has lately intensified.
The contested pipeline is to lead natural gas from the northeastern coast of British Columbia to the Pacific coast of the state, from where it is to be exported.
