Nine months passed between two deadly avalanches. 14 people died in Súðavík and 20 in Flateyri. The investigative committee on Súðavík has prompted more residents of Flateyri to call for further investigations.
In a submission on a bill on almannavarna (Civil Defence), Jón Svanberg Hjartarson, who was a police officer in Flateyri when the avalanche fell, calls for provisions on such investigations to be included in the legislation, with reference to the investigative committee’s work on the Súðavík avalanche.
