Broberg Demoted from Foreign Minister Post in Greenland

Pele Broberg (N) will no longer hold the responsibility for foreign affair issues in Greenland’s self-rule government Naalakkersuisut, but gets to keep his post as Trade and Enterprise Minister, KNR reports. Premier Mute B. Egede (IA) takes over the foreign affairs responsibilities.

This comes after Broberg declared in an interview with Danish daily Berlingske that only people of Inuit origins should be allowed to vote in a potential future referendum about independence from Denmark.

Egede quickly issued a statement saying that Broberg was not speaking for the Naalakkersuisut. Soon thereafter, the party Atassut, which supports the current government coalition in parliament, said it no longer had confidence in Broberg and wanted him removed from the post.
