Archeological Findings in Greenland
Hundreds of items from the 17th to 19th century have been discovered in Sisimiut, Greenland according to Sermitsiaq. The items were found in relation to an expansion of the local Seamen’s Home.
The items found include ceramics, textiles, cutlery, knuckles and various hunting tools.
“The tools are in surprisingly good shape. They appear new, as they have been buried in the ground”, says Leader Katrine Olsen at Sisimiut Museum.
Construction work is set to resume on Monday 6 September. Until then, extensive excavations and registration of items are ongoing and a high number of volunteers are involved.
