4.5 Quake at Bárðarbunga, Iceland

An earthquake of magnitude 4.5 occurred in the Bárðarbunga crater in Iceland, just before 6pm Monday, RUV reports. This is stated in the announcement by the Icelandic Meteorological Office. Several aftershocks have been recorded since then, the largest measuring 2.7.

There are still no signs of volcanic activity despite the high level of activity at the site. Quakes of magnitude 3.7 and 3.9 were recorded on Saturday, and one of magnitude 5.0 on September 3, at the same location.
