143 Women in the “Spiral Case” Demand Millions From Denmark

143 women who involuntarily had IUDs inserted by Danish doctors in Greenland in the 1960s and 70s are now suing the Danish state.

This is reported by KNR.

Last year, 67 women submitted compensation claims of DKK 300,000 each for human rights violations. This claim has not been answered. The number of women claiming compensation has now grown to 143, and the total sum now amounts to just under 43 million DKK.

Greenlandic women had IUDs inserted from 1966 to 1975 as part of the Danish authorities' strategy to reduce population growth in Greenland. This was revealed in the DR podcast "Spiralkampagnen" ["The IUD Campaign," ed. translation].
