Lemon Shortage in Iceland, New Diet Fad to Blame?

There has been a shortage of lemons in Icelandic stores in recent days and suppliers have had trouble coping with demand. Managing director of fruit importer Bananar Kjartan Már Friðsteinsson said he doesn’t know what is causing the sudden increased demand of lemons but guesses that it’s part of a new trendy diet, Iceland Review reports.

“The lemon appears to be a very popular fruit these days, more than usual. I’m just going to take a wild guess that there are some special diets going on,” he told visir.is.

Kjartan said it is common that certain fruits become more popular than others after New Year’s. “Then all sorts of trends surface. People seem to be concerned about their weight after Christmas.”
