Eleven Candidates Confirmed in Iceland Presidential Race

The National Electoral Commission in Iceland ruled that two of the thirteen candidacies received on Friday were invalid. This from Icelandic broadcaster RUV.

These candidates were declared valid:

  • Arnar Þór Jónsson, lawyer and former judge (Independence Party)
  • Ásdís Rán Gunnarsdóttir, model and entrepreneur
  • Ástþór Magnússon Wium, businessman, peace activist, and perennial candidate (Democracy Movement)
  • Baldur Þórhallsson, Political Science Professor (Independent)
  • Eiríkur Ingi Jóhannsson, Engineer
  • Halla Hrund Logadóttir, Icelandic Energy Commissioner and adjunct lecturer at Harvard University
  • Halla Tómasdóttir, operational economist, teacher and candidate in the 2016 presidential election
  • Helga Þórisdóttir, Data Protection Commissioner
  • Jón Gnarr, actor, comedian, and former Mayor of Reykjavík (Social Democratic Alliance)
  • Katrín Jakobsdóttir, former Prime Minister of Iceland (Left-Green Movement)
  • Steinunn Ólína Þorsteinsdóttir, actress, TV show host, producer and writer

The election for President of Iceland will take place on 1 June 2024.
