Nordland, Norway: - More oil in the south
The Nordland III field, south of 67o N, probably contains more oil than the politically contested Nordland VI, which lies just off the Lofoten coast. That is one recent finding of the Norwegian Geological Survey (NGU).
Researcher Odleiv Olesen at NGU says they believe that the Nordland III field has kept more oil and gas in potential reservoirs, whereas parts of the politically contested area Nordland VI probably has leaked more petroleum throughout history. There is no knowing how much has leaked out, he says.
The new survey results will be presented at a conference in Bergen this week.
