Who Will be the 2018 High North Hero?

The third High North Hero award will be handed out in April 2018. The committee is now accepting nominations for the award.

– Anyone can nominate, and you can even nominate yourself, says Anu Fredrikson, Chair of the HNH Committee and Director of the Arctic Economic Council.

Sky-high level

The award should go to a person or an organization that has contributed to highlighting the Arctic, the High North and the opportunities there. The 2016 award went to Finland’s former Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen, and this year’s award went to Investment Director Scott Minerd of Guggenheim Partners. The level is sky high, in other words, though that should not keep anyone from submitting nominations of people or organizations that they believe deserve the award.

– The award is an excellent way of highlighting the work that is done for the High North, to raise attention and to honor people who have done that little extra to develop the Arctic, Fredrikson says.

Begs for a difficult job

Anu Fredrikson further says that there have been many nominations the previous two years, and the jury has had an interesting and demanding job in going through the nominees and selecting a winner. She expects increased attention this year, as it is the third time the prize is awarded.

– Now we can call it a tradition. The former winners have both drawn a lot of attention, so we expect many nominations for the 2018 award. And that’s good – the more candidates, the better. We would love to have a difficult job on the committee when selecting, she emphasizes.

The awarding committee consists of Fredriksen, Finn Roar Aamodt (Statoil), Arne O. Holm (The High North Center for Business and Governance), Indra Øverland (NUPI), Laurence C. Smith (UCLA), Sergey Vasilev (MGIMO) and Elene Kudryashova (Narfu).
