The EU factor

Europe (not to mention the world in general) is filled with independence movements. Even though few of them have much in common, from a Greenlandic perspective it might be worthwhile to have a closer look at them to see if anything can be learned, Michael Keldsen writes in The Arctic Journal, and concludes:

– For me, it is that the debate about Greenlandic culture, which lies at the heart of its independence movement, could be tied to a debate about its efforts to strengthen its relationship to the EU. Doing so might help contribute to more pragmatic discussion about Greenland’s future, just as the benefits of EU membership could finally be taken up without those who do so being accused of having ulterior motives.
