Russia-China Navy Drills Has Begun

An official ceremony in Novorossijysk, one of the largest ports in Russia, opened the Joint Sea 2015 naval drills in the Mediterranean yesterday. According to the Russian Defense Ministry’s press service the drills will feature about ten combat ships from Russia and China.

The combat ships will be of various classes, TASS reports.

- The joint drills are not aimed against third parties and are not connected with the political situation in that region, the press service said.

Yesterdays ceremony involved Russian Navy Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Vice-Admiral Alexander Fedotenkov and Chinese Navy Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Vice-Admiral Du Czinchen, representatives of the drills’ joint headquarters, and crews of Russian combat ship, amongst others.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry the parties used the first day of the drills to discuss planning documents, and for commanders to give tasks to the participants. They also studied task’s episodes on the map.

The Joint 2015, whose active phase take place in the Mediterranean Sea, will favor further improvements of friendly and practical cooperation between the countries, and improvement of joint countering threats for security, according to the ministry.
