Five Years since Eyjafjallajökull Erupted

This week marked the five-year anniversary of the volcanic eruption in Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which lies under a glacier in South Iceland by the same name. The eruption began in the early hours of April 14, 2010, and it continued for six weeks, or until May 23, Iceland Review reports.

It was a phreatic eruption with explosive activity, emitting a large volume of ash which spread across the country and to the European mainland, disrupting air traffic all around the world, reports.
