Norwegian Foreign Minister Børge Brende (Conservatives) will discuss increased cooperation between Norway and China when he meets a big Chinese delegation in Tromsø, Norway, today.

Brende is in Tromsø to attend the Arctic Frontiers conference, and in a press briefing, he said that there is now full normalization of the relationship between Norway and China.

"It is important for Norway to have good cooperation with the world’s populous state", Brende says.

Norway is now planning to bring Norwegian business delegations to China in order to enhance export opportunities for Norwegian businesses.

The news that Donald Trump already has shelved the TPP Agreement, which the USA has worked on for a long time, is referred to as a “wonderful gift to China” by commentators. Things are looking far better for Norway with a normalized relationship with China than it otherwise would have if there had been a TPP Agreement.

The fact that the Trump Administration has shelved the TPP Agreement is something that Norway takes ad notam, says Foreign Minister Børge Brende.

"It is not an agreement primarily about Norway and Europe, but this case could be an example that Trump prefers bilateral over multilateral agreements", Brende says.
