The Norwegian Ministry of Oil and Energy today approved the development of the Snefrid Nord gas deposit, located west of Bodø and near the Aasta Hanseen field.

About 500 billion cubic metres of gas deposits were discovered in 2015, and the field lies around 300 kilometres from the mainland at 1,300 meters’ depth. Developers will establish one production well as a satellite of the Hansteen platform and export production through the Polarled pipeline to the processing plant at Nyhamna, Møre and Romsdal County.

Snefrid Nord should start production in the fourth quarter of 2019, about one year after production starts at Aasta Hanseen.

According to Norwegian Oil and Energy Minister Terje Søviknes, the Norwegian supply industry has already secured important contracts.

Owners of this licence are Statoil Petroleum (operator, 51 %), Wintershall Norway (24 %.), OMV Norway (15 %) and ConocoPhillips Scandinavia (10 %).
